Prozanski hosts member of Turkish Parliament

Ece Karakus came to the Oregon Senate as part of the U.S. State Department's Professional Fellows Program.

Ece Karakus, a member of the Turkish opposition party, sat with the Eugene Democrat on the Senate floor Monday during the Legislature's one-day special session to expand a state tax break for businesses. She also worked in the senator's office and observed executive appointments Wednesday. The list of executive appointments was one of the longest in recent memory, said Senate Majority Leader Ginny Burdick, D-Portland.

Karakus visited through her participation in the U.S. State Department's Professional Fellows Program. The program allows elected officials to observe and learn best practices in this country.

Karakus was scheduled to head to Washington, D.C., Friday to see federal politics next week.
