Tours of the state capitol tower will resume July 6.

Workers have been cleaning the observation tower and applying a waterproofing seal this month.

Starting next Friday, tours will be available at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. every weekday, weather permitting.

Another new development: you can also now take a virtual tour of the capitol building. When you're using a mobile device, you can go to www.orcapitoltour.com; when you're using a computer, www.oregoncapitol.com. The virtual tour features 360-degree photographs of the building.

2018 also marks the 80th birthday of the golden pioneer at the top of the building. A celebration is planned for the 22-foot-tall icon, but details are pending.
