New Kid Governor takes office next week
Oregon's second Kid Governor — a civics program run by the Secretary of State — will be sworn in next Tuesday.
Erikka Baldwin, a fifth grader at Eugene's McCornack Elementary, is this year's Kid Governor. She was elected in November.
Her mission: find "forever homes" for rescue cats and dogs. The first Kid Governor, Dom Peters, who ran on an anti-bullying platform, attended public events (even throwing out the first pitch at a Keizer Volcanoes game), hosted a Capitol tour and civics lesson video for kids and published a children's book on kindness.
Erikka's inauguration will happen at 11 a.m. at the Oregon Senate Chamber in the state capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
