Senate prez wants analysts to study effect of federal shutdown
Legislative budget analysts have a new research project.
Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, announced this week that he wants analysts from the Legislative Fiscal Office to look at the impact of the nearly monthlong federal government shutdown on Oregonians.
"It is time for the Oregon Legislature to act," Courtney said in a statement Thursday. "We cannot simply say it's the federal government's job, not our problem. It is our problem, our people."
Courtney he directed the Legislative Fiscal Office to research "the impacts this shutdown is having on Oregon and her people."
"We will work to determine how the Oregon Legislature can help these struggling families, and how we can ensure that services are continued while we wait for Washington, D.C. to find a solution," Courtney said.
