Dems and Rs send wishes to Salem - of different kinds

Partisans send greetings to freshman Democrats while a list of potential Richardson replacements takes shape.

This week, the Democratic Party of Oregon sent a greeting card to Oregon's seven new Democrats at the legislature: Sen. Jeff Golden, D-Ashland; Sen. Shemia Fagan, D-Portland; Rep. Marty Wilde, D-Eugene; Rep. Courtney Neron, D-Wilsonville; Rep. Tiffiny Mitchell, D-Astoria; Rep. Rachel Prusak, D-Tualatin/West Linn; and Rep. Anna Williams, D-Hood River.

The Democrats are part of a large class of freshman legislators this year.

Here are a sampling of the good wishes from Oregon Democrats:

"Thank you and have some fun doing your job!" — Mary Lynn P.

"It is good to see so many women! I congratulate the guys, too, and hope you all can change things for the common people." — Lily J.

"Thank you so much for your willingness to step up and lead! It's a hard job, and I admire those who take it on to work for all Oregonians on passing important legislation such as control measures and paid family & medical leave. Best wishes to you." — Ellen S.

Meanwhile, Oregon Republicans also sent some wishes to Salem this week.

The Oregon GOP asked Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, to consider five Republicans they'd like to see nominated to replace late Secretary of State Dennis Richardson, a Republican who died last week of cancer.

Brown has said that she will appoint a Republican who pledges not to run for Secretary of State in 2020.

On the GOP's list: former State Rep. Katie Eyre; former State Rep. Bill Kennemer; Debra Royal, Richardson's chief of staff; former Speaker of the House Lynn Snodgrass; former State Rep. Gene Whisnant.
