Boquist statements topic of committee meeting
State Sen. Brian Boquist's remarks were heard around the world.
Next week, a group of four senators — two Democrats and two Republicans — will consider the interim finding and recommendation by an outside lawyer about those statements.
Boquist, a Dallas Republican, said June 19 that if State Police were sent to recover him if Republicans walked out that they should be "bachelors" and "heavily armed." He also said in a floor speech, addressing Senate President Peter Courtney, that "hell's coming to visit you personally" if the police were sent.
That lawyer said reports of fear and safety concerns over Boquist's statements were credible, and recommended that Boquist be kept out of the Capitol building for the rest of the session. But Boquist did come back to the building over the weekend and was seen on the floor.
The conduct committee meets at 9 a.m. Monday, July 8.
