Capitol closed starting today

The building's power is getting shut off through Tuesday, but the AC will be out until July 28.

Oregon State CapitolThe Oregon Capitol will be closed starting Friday, July 19, until Monday, July 22.

The building's power is getting shut off for the ongoing Capitol Accessibility, Maintenance and Safety (CAMS) project. Workers are installing a permanent power source.

And through July 28, the building's air conditioning will be out.

Tower tours will not resume until after that, although visitors willing to brave the marble building without air conditioning can do self-guided tours once the building is open again.

The project includes new cooling system as well.

"We are bringing our new cooling system on line as part of the building improvement project approved by the 2016 Legislative Assembly," said Jodie Jones, the CAMS Project Director, in a statement. "This project also includes improving Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access and making mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades. We planned for this work to commence following the 2019 Legislative Session to cause as little disruption as possible."
