Salem City Club to host talk on rural-urban divide
The Salem City Club is hosting a talk on Friday, Nov. 15 on the urban-rural divide.
The concept entered popular political discourse after the November 2016 election of Donald J. Trump.
It became a bludgeon during the legislative session here in Oregon, where Republicans lambasted Democrats for pushing policies they said would adversely affect rural Oregonians, and ultimately walked out over a policy to limit the state's carbon emissions.
Western Oregon University Prof. Mark Henkels will "discuss the politics of the rural-urban divide and prospects for bridging the gap."
The presentation will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Willamette Heritage Center at the Mill, 1313 Mill St SE, Salem,.
