Oregon Vets and War Memorial Grant program seeks applications

The program helps honor Oregon's soldiers and veterans by commemorating their service to the country.

EAST OREGONIAN - The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is seeking applications for its Veterans' and War Memorials Grant program.

The fund was created and established to provide financial assistance to local governments for the construction and restoration of veterans' and war memorials. Local governments include any cities, counties, service districts, parks and recreation districts or ports in Oregon. The program — which funds up to 80% of memorial projects planned for publicly owned property — helps honor Oregon's soldiers and veterans by commemorating their service to the country.

Each year, Oregon Parks awards around $150,000, ranging in grants from $14,000 to $80,000. They evaluate projects on criteria including the capability of the applicant to carry out the proposed project, the effectiveness of the proposed project to recognize veterans and/or wars, level of participation of veteran organization partners in the project and commitment to long term maintenance of the memorial.

Applications must be submitted to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department by Feb. 13, 2020.
