TV station puts governor on pedestal

Medford’s KOBI-TV/NBC5 put Gov. Kate Brown on a sort of pedestal Oct. 13 before pelting her and challenger Bud Pierce with a volley of difficult questions.

Public speaking engagements are a daily occurrence for the governor, but oftentimes, the podiums where she stands to deliver her speeches dwarf her short stature.

The organizers of the fourth gubernatorial debate in Medford took care to attend to those kinds of visuals. In addition to perfectly coiffing their hair and making sure panelists were in makeup, they placed a step behind Brown’s podium to raise her up to her opponent’s eye level.

Brown and Pierce are seeking election to complete the last two years of the four-year term of former Gov. John Kitzhaber who resigned in February 2015 amid an influence-peddling scandal.
