- STATE OF OREGON - Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins
Following claims that the upcoming presidential election is “rigged” by Republican candidate Donald Trump, Oregon’s secretary of state, the chief elections officer and auditor, has been busy assuaging any perceived election insecurity.
Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins sent a letter to legislators last week emphasizing the security of the state’s elections system.
“Given the sheer number of votes and the decentralized nature of our elections system, manipulating the results of an election is virtually impossible,” Atkins wrote. Atkins is not running for election.
She followed up this week, reassuring voters that they needed only one “Forever” stamp to mail their ballots. Ballots can also be dropped off at designated dropbox locations on Election Day.
Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Brad Avakian this week released an ad on his Facebook page calling his Republican opponent, Dennis Richardson, the “Oregon’s own Donald Trump,” citing Richardson’s record of statements on abortion and immigration. No mention of Trump’s claim of “rigging” was made, however.
