Emily Matasar, a staff attorney who processes public records requests and extraditions in Gov. Kate Brown’s office, received a new title Nov. 15 and a few extra duties.
As the new “government accountability attorney,” Matasar is now tasked with some of the duties of Brown’s former senior policy adviser Gina Zejdlik, who resigned Aug. 31 after taking maternity leave.
Those include working on policy to improve statewide public records policies and government ethics laws and to enhance accountability and accessibility across state government, according to a press release from Brown’s office.
In reality, Matasar’s new title doesn’t add or change any of the priorities or duties in the Governor’s Office, but it does appear to enrich an image Brown has been seeking to cultivate since she took office: to enhance transparency and ethics in state government.
