Pink Floyd’s ‘Money’ talks at Oregon’s biz summit

The Oregon Business Plan’s annual leadership summit is a theatrical production.

There are podiums, professional lighting, and some oratorical flourishes from the state’s leading business personalities and political bigwigs.

While the talk at Monday’s summit was mostly serious in light of the state’s budget crunch, someone there seemed to have a sense of humor.

As attendees stood up from their tables after the plenary session, it seemed Pink Floyd’s 1973 hit “Money” was playing — starting with the famous opening of change rattling in a cashbox.

The lyrics are not subtle, going so far as to say, “Money, it’s a crime.”

Sources at the Oregon Convention Center say that the Oregon Business Plan hired a third party audio/visual company to stage the event. A representative from that company, Henry V, did not return a call for comment this week, and neither did the Oregon Business Plan.

So it remains unclear whether the playlist choice was the subversive work of a Measure 97 supporter — or just an ardent Pink Floyd fan.
