The Oregon Department of Education’s unveiled an early holiday gift for the public earlier this week — a new website.

The upgraded site, with a new URL, will be easier to access for mobile users and people with disabilities, said ODE spokeswoman Tricia Yates.

Tech staff members have been working on the new iteration for more than a year.

“Our old site was created about 20 years ago and had limitations that made it difficult to use on mobile devices and for those with disabilities that required the use of assistive devices,” Yates said in an email to Oregon Capital Insider. “Our new site is cleaner and easier to navigate, adaptable for all mobile platforms and is consistent with the look of other State of Oregon agencies.”

The website was created as part of an existing service contract with NICUSA for state website services and only cost staff time in the form of migrating information from the old site to the new one.

A subsequent phase will move additional information from the old site to the new site, which will be completed by July, Yates said.

The old site will redirect to the new one.
