- Former Happy Valley Mayor Lori Chavez-DeRemer is a Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District in Oregon.
Happy Valley Mayor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican, has ruled out a run for governor in 2018.
Chavez-DeRemer said in a video post on Facebook that “without all the parts to run a successful campaign and win, we will not risk the money or waste the momentum.”
The Happy Valley mayor, who lost to Democrat Janelle Bynum in a contest for the local House of Representatives seat in 2016, seems to be building a resume for higher office at some point.
She’s not nixing a run beyond 2018. And she has plans for a new website and ambitions to share “her vision” for Oregon.
Chavez-DeRemer was also named a “Rising Star” at this year’s Dorchester Conference, the annual meeting of the state’s political conservatives.
On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Mike McLane, R-Powell Butte, posted a photo of himself with Chavez-DeRemer on Twitter, writing “Next time?”
Knute Buehler, a state representative from Bend and 2012 candidate for secretary of state, is the current favorite for the GOP nomination.
