Julie Brown, general manager of the Rogue Valley Transportation District in Medford, has been confirmed as the newest member of the Oregon Transportation Commission.

She succeeds Commission Vice-Chairman Sean O’Hollaren who was recently appointed to the Port of Portland Commission. O’Hollaren of Portland served on the commission for four years.

Gov. Kate Brown nominated Julie Brown to the commission Aug. 31 when she submitted her choices for dozens of other executive appointments.

“Julie brings energy, vision and vast experience to the table,” said Tammy Baney, the transportation commission’s chairwoman. “We are truly excited to have her join our group at a time when transportation is front-of-mind for many Oregonians.”

The transportation commission is the architect of a pending proposal to toll interstates through the Portland area, custodian of a $5.3 billion transportation-funding bill, approved last year, and policymaker for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Julie Brown has worked as general manager for the Rogue Valley Transportation District for over 11 years and has 22 years of experience in transportation. She served as president of the Oregon Transit Association and the Oregon Transportation Safety Committee and as chair of the Public Transportation Advisory Committee.

“I’m excited to serve in this new capacity,” she said. “Representing the needs of transit will provide a new perspective to the commission and will help us improve the lives of many Oregonians.”

Baney has appointed Commissioner Robert Van Brocklin as new vice-chairman.
