Former gubernatorial candidate Sam Carpenter is running for chairman of the Oregon Republican Party.
In a recent email, he slammed Rep. Knute Buehler for catering to the left during the gubernatorial campaign.
“…he thumbed his nose at his own base, and his travel bus and yard signs were oh-so-blue,” Carpenter wrote.
Buehler defeated Carpenter in the May 15 GOP primary but ultimately lost the election to Democratic incumbent Gov. Kate Brown.
Carpenter claims that Buehler’s anti-Trump positions “buried him” in the counties that mattered most: Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.
That seems unlikely given how liberal Multnomah is and how blue Washington County is becoming.
Carpenter styled himself after President Donald Trump and adopted the motto, “Make Oregon Great Again.”
If he wins the Republican Party’s chairmanship Feb. 16 in Salem, we’ll see if Carpenter can make the Oregon GOP great again.
