Looking for a way to work off some of those holiday pounds? The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is again offering free guided hikes at 31 state parks on Jan. 1.
First Day Hikes is a national program sponsored by the National Association of State Park Directors. Oregon has participated since 2012.
OPRD is offering 32 guided hikes at various times in 31 parks across the state. The hikes will be guided either by park rangers or volunteers. The hikes are free and day-use fees will be waived at the parks on New Year’s Day.
Visitors are encouraged to register for their desired hike online so that organizers have an idea of how many people will participate.
For a complete list of hikes, and to register, go to the event’s website.
