Jacqueline L. Alarcón is the 100th judge appointed by Gov. Kate Brown to state trial, appellate and tax courts. As of July 1, Alarcón will fill the vacancy created by the June 30 retirement of Multnomah County Circuit Judge Jerry Hodson. Of Brown’s appointees, 52 are women, 25 are people of color and eight identify as LGBTQ. Soon the governor will appoint two more. Lane County circuit judges Lauren Holland and Charles D. Carlson are retiring June 30; applications for those positions are due June 3.

Brown has nominated Allan Lazo of Portland, executive director of the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, to a four-year term on the Land Conservation and Development Commission, starting June 10.

The governor picked Lorraine Arvin of Hood River to finish Charles Wilhoite’s unexpired term on the Oregon Investment Council. Arvin will serve until April 2025 and, like other nominees, must be confirmed by the Oregon Senate. Sharon Nickleberry Rogers of Portland will finish Wilhoite’s term on the Oregon Housing Stability Council, serving until June 2025.

Retiring Congressman Peter DeFazio’s communications director, King Green, departed in early May. Green is joining the staff of Connecticut Rep. Rosa DeLauro, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, as communications director. Carly Gabrielson has now begun work as DeFazio’s deputy chief of staff and communications director.

Meies Matz has moved to the state Department of Administrative Services’ Office of Data Governance and Transparency as equity and analytics consultant. Matz is on rotation from the Department of Human Services.
