Oregon insiders: Who’s who in and around state government

Gov. Tina Kotek has added four people to her Regional Solutions Team:

Jessica LaBerge, southern/south coast coordinator, was with Catholic Charities of Oregon as the disaster services program manager and disaster case management regional program director.

Zavier Borja, central/south-central coordinator, was Bend’s community relations manager for partnerships and equity.

Courtney Flathers, south valley/mid-coast coordinator, was ports program policy coordinator for Business Oregon and previously a field representative for Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley.

Beth Wytoski, Mid-Willamette Valley coordinator, served nine years as Dayton’s mayor.

Svetha Ambati, whoholds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning, joined Kotek’s Housing and Homelessness Initiative Team as housing analyst. For the past two years, she worked for the city of Portland as an equitable development analyst and equity strategies analyst. 

Longtime government insider Tina Edlund has joined the CareOregon Board of Directors. She was a health policy expert for Govs. Kate Brown, John Kitzhaber and Ted Kulongoski, including a stint as acting director of the Oregon Health Authority.

Deputy House Republican Leader Shelly Boshart Davis of Albany and House Republican Whip E. Werner Reschke of Klamath Falls resigned those caucus leadership positions last week amid the legislative fight over HB 2002 dealing with abortion and gender-affirming health care.

House Republican Leader Vikki Breese-Iverson appointed Rep. Jeff Helfrich, R-Hood River, to the Willamette Falls Locks Authority.

Appointed to the Committee on Public Education Appropriation by House Speaker Dan Rayfield were Reps. Susan McLain, D-Forest Grove, co-chair; Emily McIntire, R-Eagle Point; and Andrea Valderrama, D-Portland. Rayfield named Rep. Bobby Levy, R-Echo, to the Oregon Global Warming Commission. 

Tom Danowski, executive director of the Oregon Wine Board since 2011, will step down at the end of the year.

The Clatsop Community College board appointed Kevin LaCoste, a retired banking executive, as interim president. College President Chris Breitmeyer reached a separation agreement last month and is expected to leave by the end of July.
