Former Madras City Administrator Gus Burril joined the Oregon Broadband Office as a broadband project coordinator.
Jay Wilson, who is the Oregon Department of Emergency Management’s mitigation and recovery regional coordinator for the Portland metro area, is taking a job with Clackamas County. Sonya McCormick, OEM’s public/private partnership program manager, moved to the Oregon Health Authority as a senior project manager.
Dr. Sejal Hathi, incoming director of the Oregon Health Authority, is meeting with agency leaders ahead of her Jan. 16 start. Last month, Gov. Tina Kotek appointed Hathi, who will undergo Oregon Senate confirmation in early January.
A public memorial service will be held in January for former Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Edwin J. Peterson, 93, of Salem, who died Dec. 2. Appointed by Gov. Vic Atiyeh, Peterson served on the high court from 1979 to 1993 and was chief justice from 1983 to 1991. He was recognized as improving the efficiency of courts and leading efforts to eliminate racial and ethnic bias in the court system. His wife, Anna M. Peterson, was mayor of Salem from 2011 to 2016.
Senate President Rob Wagner, D-Lake Oswego, appointed Sens. Aaron Woods, D-Wilsonville, to the Oregon Commission on Black Affairs and Daniel Bonham, R-The Dalles, to the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council.
Two hospital executives will join the Hospital Association of Oregon board in January. Jeremy Davis is president and CEO of Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. Erik Thorsen is CEO of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.
Douglas County Commissioner Tim Freeman was reelected for an eighth term as president of the Association of O&C Counties, serving for 2023-24. The AOCC also reelected Coos County Commissioner Bob Main as vice president and Polk County Commissioner Craig Pope as secretary/treasurer.
