Bio:

Bernie Sanders, 81, is a U.S. Senator from Vermont and two-time candidate for President.

Sanders was born in New York City and went to college at Brooklyn College and the University of Chicago. He moved to Vermont and worked as a carpenter and filmmaker. 

In 1981, Sanders was elected mayor of Burlington with a winning margin of just 10 votes. He would serve 16 years at the sole U.S. House member from Vermont. 

Sanders ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016 and 2020. He lives in Burlington, with his wife Jane. He has four children and seven grandchildren.
