The House Republican Office has hired a familiar replacement for its communications director — Tayleranne Gillespie, most recently of the Oregon Secretary of State’s office.

“She has extensive experience in Oregon politics,” said House Republican Leader Carl Wilson, R-Grants Pass, in a statement, “And has a great understanding of the legislative process and issues that matter to Oregonians. I know she will serve the caucus well.”

Gillespie replaces Greg Stiles, a longtime Medford Mail-Tribune staffer who leapt from a long career in journalism to be the spokesman for the House Republicans in the 2019 session. He stepped down in July.

Gillespie was hired to be the communications director for Secretary of State Bev Clarno, who was appointed earlier this year, after Dennis Richardson died.

But in June, Gillespie was terminated, along with two executive assistants, as part of what Deputy Secretary of State Rich Vial characterized in a staff email as a “ongoing process to achieve efficient operation of the Agency,” according to reporting by The Salem Reporter’s Aubrey Wieber.

Prior to her post at the Secretary of State’s Office, she was a spokeswoman for the Senate Republican Office, and has held various jobs at the Capitol since 2013.
